Operationalizing the 8 Guiding Principles of Effective Intervention Training
This training takes National Institute of Correction's "Eight Guiding Principles for Effective Interventions" and teaches how to operationalize those principles. It gives both real life examples as well as a hands on practice. Participants gain an understanding of the Eight Guiding Principles, are introduced to examples of how to operationalize those principles, and learn where to find the tools necessary for operationalizing the principles.
Drivers & Deficits Training
This training focuses on the two most important things any person working with offenders needs to know - what's driving their behavior and what are the skill deficits they need to work on. Participants gain an understanding of what drivers and skill deficits are, how to determine them, and to use that information in working with offenders.
Incentives & Rewards Training
Carrots work better than sticks. It's as simple as that! Research says that we should be doing 4 positives to every 1 negative. But that can be difficult to put into practice. In this training participants learn the principles of contingency management, are exposed to examples of good incentives and rewards programs, participate in an experiential activity to develop an incentives and rewards program, and learn techniques to keep it fresh.
Responding to Violations Training
Violations happen! It's a fact of life when working with offenders. Many of the violations can be prevented and many of the violations that do happen don't have to result in failure. This training teaches criminal justice professionals how to help offenders identify potential triggers for violations and develop a plan to prevent them. it also teaches criminal justice professionals how to help offenders understand how their violations behavior is connected to their drivers and deficits and how to learn from them.
This training is designed for the agency that is either not currently doing a 3rd generation criminogenic risk needs assessment or who is looking to improve the use of their assessments. This training helps participants understand the history of criminogenic risk needs assessments, how to choose the right assessment for your agency, how to share results of assessments with offenders, and how to use the results in case planning. The use of Secondary assessments is also discussed. Secondary assessments are those used to further determine the extent of identified need areas are to uncover other needs that will effect treatment outcomes.
Building Blocks for a Successful Community Based Reentry Program Training
